Honorable Muzzarelli Drive
Perhaps the most revered and known landmark of the southern suburbs
was born in 1949 when the land that once was home to a Spa from the
1920’s became the Sabre Room.   Arnold and Marie Muzzarelli both shared
a dream and a vision to bring fine dining and entertainment to the south
suburbs.  This dream soon became a reality and the Sabre Room soon was
host to President’s, Governors, and entertainment greats such as Frank
Sinatra, Dean Martin, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Bill Cosby and
George Burns just to name a few.  After all these years the Sabre Room is
still family owned and operated and maintains its status as one of the
premiere banquet, entertainment and convention centers on the south
side.   With Arnold now gone the Sabre Room still maintains its reputation
for excellence with his wife Marie still overseeing business operations
with the help of her executive staff consisting of her son Arnold
Muzzarelli, Jr., daughters Yvonne Muzzarelli, Janice Voit, her husband
Rudy, and Art Golden.  With their continued emphasis on fine cuisine,
newly remodeled banquet rooms that can accommodate from 50 to 2000
people and acres of free parking, the Sabre Room has become a popular
venue over the years for not only entertainers and wedding receptions, but
for corporate events, political fundraisers, proms and fashion shows.

On June 26, 2003 at the Hickory Hills City Council meeting Marie
Muzzarelli received a City of Hickory Hills proclamation renaming Kean
Avenue from 95th  Street to 87th Street Muzzarelli Dr., in honor of her
husband.  This effort was led by Regina DiDomenico and the Hickory Hills
Women’s Club to honor Arnold whom along with his family has “spent a
lifetime supporting Hickory Hills’ community organizations”.  Hickory
Hills Mayor Mike Howley in presenting the proclamation called Arnold
Muzzarelli the founding father of Hickory Hills.  Arnold was also
instrumental in starting the Hickory Hills Chamber of Commerce in 1968
and served as its first President.
